Q. Android bootloader?

Every Android phone has a bootloader that instructs the operating system kernel to boot normally. But you need to understand one thing here that as Android OS is an open source OS and is available on a variety of different hardware, every manufacturer has their own version of bootloader specific for the hardware present in it’s environment. We also saw couple of weeks back that Motorola packaged an “eFuse” command in their Android phones, which could brick (permanently turn off) your device in case you tried to flash a Custom ROM.
Why is Bootloader Locked ?

Q. Why is it locked?

A bootloader is usually locked on an Android device because although it’s an open source OS, still the manufacturers want you to stick to their Android OS version specifically designed for the device. In order to apply this concept, manufacturers lock the bootloader. With a locked bootloader on Android devices, it is virtually impossible to flash a Custom ROM and forced attempts void warranty as well as usually end up in bricks. Therefore, the first step is to always unlock the bootloader.

Q. Why To Unlock Bootloader On Android Devices?

The explanation to this question is really simple. If you want root, you’d be wanting to flash Custom ROM post-root, and if you want to install a Custom ROM, you’d need to have your stock bootloader unlocked. In simple terms Unlocking the bootloader allows you to install custom Firmware on your Android phone.

Note: We have seen in some forums that customers unlocking the boot loader on their phones have experienced problems when they accept a FOTA (Firmware upgrade Over The Air) update. The issue has been reproduced and we are working on a solution. For customers that have unlocked the boot loader please do not accept the Firmware upgrade OTA.

Some requirements...

• Windows Vista/7 or 8 (Driver problems with XP)
  
• An internet connection at least 1mbps

So here it is

Unlocking officially with sony ericsson comes with disadvantages
Damaged DRM key, losing the ability to update with SEUS, bricking your phone doing the OTA update...
Using software called setool you can minimise all those risks.

Here is my tutorial

Below is all the programs you will need Once setup and contacted me I will be controlling your computer.
I will connect to hamachi and connect via USB over network.
Once connected I will install needed drivers and open setool software.

It will look like this...



This is the settings page



In both pictures you can see the log window, this window is very important. It's where all the instructions are read by the user.

Here is what is read in the log window after pressing "unlock/repair"

REMOVE BATTERY FROM PHONE
ATTACH TESTPOINT
PRESS "READY", THEN ATTACH USB CABLE TO PHONE

At the bottom of this log window you can see this message.



So what to do when you see this message?

If cable is connected and battery in, you...

• Unplug phone
  
• Take out battery
  
• Connect testpoint

Then I press "ready" and you...

• Keep TP attached
  
• Connect cable to phone

Very soon after the program will say

Remove testpoint.

When this is done I will press ready and soon after yhe log will look something like this...

If for some reason we get an error we will do the process again

Q. Can I use OTA after unlocking with setool

A.

Q. If the process does not work can I get a refund?

A. There is no way the process will not work BUT... If for some reason it doesn't then a full refund will be given if all attempts fail.

Q. If the process fails during unlock will it cost me again?

A. No your IMEI is stored and if unlock fails, the phone can still be unlocked with no more cost to me or you.

Q. This software i'm going to install, will it harm my computer?

A. No, setool might be detected by anti-virus but look HERE if unsure. I have also had one report of blue screen upon uninstallation of usb over network but this can happen on certain systems and is nothing to worry about.

my Mini Pro was delivered this morning and there's also been a slight change of plan so I am availble this evening (Saturday) if it's not too late to arrange anything (sorry for the short notice) ?

I've set up a PC with the required software and also checked I know how to get into what I think is the correct mode (which the driver from the SETools folder calls ZEUS Flash Device) so hopefully I should be ready to get this done.
